Buccleuch Arms Golf team for Mainetti Charity Golf Day
When it comes to raising money for charity, Billy Hamilton, owner of the Buccleuch Arms Hotel has it down to a tee. Find out how the boys faired on the greens and fairways at Jedburgh.
Having been a sponsor of the Mainetti Charity golf day since its first year, it was time for the Buccleuch Arms Hotel to enter a team. Organised by Mike Bell-Jack from Mainetti, it’s a golf day that has raised over £22,000 since it began in 2007. This year it looks as though the golf day will have raised just under £9,000. All monies raised have been donated to cancer related charities and this year it was split between Cancer Research and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The last time Billy played at Jedburgh was in the summer of ’83 where he came 2nd in the Boys Open. Since then, Jedburgh golf club has changed quite a lot, most notably since it was extended to 18 holes in 2006.
Team selection for the day was Chris Hepburn, David Duncan, Colin Maslin and Billy Hamilton to play over 18 holes Texas scramble.
So they turned up on a very windy September afternoon to take shelter in the bar for a wee while… and probably should have stayed there! Though there were flashes of brilliance from each and every one of them, they never seemed to be at the right moment. They were one under par for the front nine holes and the lure of a cold beer at the hut at the 10th green seemed promising. Team were under orders to perform, however that same 10th hole turned into a disaster resulting in a double bogey 6. Bogey at 11,12 and 13 as the heads were still down and the top part of the course had well and truly caught them out. They then bucked the spirits and finished the last 4 holes in one under par.
Needless to say, they weren’t in the prizes. The golf could have been improved but the company was ideal and a very friendly round of golf was followed by a few beers in the clubhouse and back at the Buccleuch.
Thanks again to Mainetti for their organization and of course my team for the day in Chris, David and Colin. Roll on the next outing!
What they say about us...
"I really don't know where to start as there is so many good things to say about this hotel. The management are superb, nothing is too much trouble."
